Tutorials for the Itty Bitty Computer Calculators

All of the calculators offered on this site use the RPN method of data entry. The first pocket calculator was developed by the Hewlett Packard company and the RPN method is familiar to many people in the engineering and scientific communities as the method used by all Hewlett Packard calculators up until the mid 80s. Hewlett Packard still manufactures and sells the world's most trusted financial calculator, the HP-12C, which was first introduced in the early 1980s and is still the favorite of many professionals in the real estate and financial industries.

Getting Started

If you're not familiar with RPN, why not begin by downloading a free copy of our basic 5-function calculator and then read through the short basic tutorial about performing simple calculations with an RPN calculator. It won't cost you a cent, and you'll quickly learn (in just six pages) how powerful and easy the RPN method is.

The information in the basic RPN tutorial applies to all of the calculators offered on this website.

Solving Financial Problems

Itty Bitty Computer offers two financial calculators, the basic and advanced models. The basic financial calculator performs the five basic arithmetic functions of the free calculator, and has additional keys for solving problems involving what people in the business world refer to as "the time value of money". The tutorial for solving "time value of money" problems, with either the basic or advanced financial calculators begins here.

The advanced financial calculator does all of what the basic financial calculator does and adds an additional keyboard for evaluating discounted cash flows, for those situations that involve irregularly spaced disbursements and receipts. The advanced model also offers some additional data editing features that are not part of the basic model. The tutorial for using the additional functions of the advanced financial calculator begins here.

Statistical Calculator

For the benefit of people who have to frequently calculate basic statistical measures like mean, median, mode, and standard deviation (of sample or population), we offer the basic statistical calculator. This calculator will quickly calculate those numbers for samples of up to 50 data points. The tutorial for using the the statistical functions is here.
