In the Merry Old Land of Oz
It's not just for Kansas, anymore! Now anybody can read Frank Baum's
classic tale of Dorothy, Toto, The Scarecrow, the tin woodman, and the
cowardly lion; and you can read it anywhere on your Palm-powered PDA.
And don't think that you'll be bored, just because you've already seen the
movie. Five of the twenty-four chapters were not included in
the movie.

When Frank Baum wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, he didn't intend
for the book to be the initial volume of a series. He had only thought of
it as a book about a girl who is swept away to a magical land by a tornado.
But, after the book appeared, a children's play based upon the character of
the Scarecrow toured the United States, attracting thousands of new fans
for the book. Then the fans of the book began to write to Mr. Baum,
requesting that he write another book about the magical land of Oz.
In 1904, the author honored those requests with the second volume of
a series that would eventually include fourteen novels and one book of
short stories. (All of these books plus two other
works based upon characters that would eventually become residents of
Oz, a total of seventeen volumes, are available here at the IBC library.)
The Marvelous Land of Oz (1904 - the 2nd in the series)

Ozma of Oz (1907 - #3 in the series)
In this third volume of the Oz series, Dorothy is back. This time she
has been sucked-up by a typhoon to return to Oz.
Dorothy's first companion on her second visit to Oz is Billina, a talking
chicken that replaces Toto in this book. But she will eventually be joined
in this adventure by all of her other travelling companions of the first
book: the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion. Together they
will come to the aid of Ozma, the girl who is introduced in the second book
and comes to be the ruler of Oz at the end of that volume. With Ozma, our
old friends join in the struggle to free the Queen of Ev from the caverns
of the Nome King.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz (1908 - #4 in the series)
It's not up, but down that Dorothy is going this time.
While Dorothy is traveling by coach in California, the Earth suddenly
opens up and Dorothy, her cousin Zeb, the horse named Jim and the cat
named Eureka (because Dorothy found it) are falling (falling --
falling -- falling) into a strange underground world populated by
carrot and potato people, governed by an emperor who lives in a city made
of glass.
But there, again, she meets with the Wizard, accompanied by a number
of piglets. Together they must overcome many obstacles to escape from the
caverns of the underworld and return to The Emerald City, where they may
be re-united with Ozma, the Scarecrow and their other friends.
