In the Merry Old Land of Oz
This is the third shelf of our collection of the history of Oz. The
first four volumes of L. Frank Baum's Oz series can be found
here. Volumes five through eight and
Little Wizard Stories of Oz can be found on
the second shelf.
Trot and Cap'n Bill (two characters that first appeared in
The Sea Fairies and
Sky Island,
two of Baum's novels that have nothing to do with Oz),
travel from California to Jinxland, on the periphery of Oz,
by way of a deep cave. After their arrival in Jinxland, the pair get involved
in an attempt to frustrate the designs of the wealthy Googly-Goo, who wishes
to wed the beautiful Princess Gloria, daughter of wicked King Krewl, the
king of Jinxland. The little girl Trot and the old sailor Cap'n Bill find
allies in a giant bird, or Ork, with a mechanical propeller tail and the
Scarecrow, who comes from The Emerald City to join in their efforts.
Of course, there are many other strange characters who will join in
many adventures along the way. Among these is an evil witch who lends
support to wicked King Krewl and Googly-Goo, and, of course Glinda the
Good, who lends her advice and support to The Scarecrow of Oz.
